“Bad News” Brown regains  WIBA Super Bantamweight title

[November 19, 2011] Trinidad and Tobago boxing fans witnessed an exciting night of boxing at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Lisa “Bad News” Brown (19-5-3, 5KO’s) headlined the evening and TKO’d Columbian Angela “La Diva” Marciales (6-6-3, 5 KO’s) at 1:26 of the fourth round. Marciales was a last minute replacement for fellow Colombian boxer Paola Ester Herrera who due to unforeseen circumstances could not travel in for the WIBA Super-Bantamweight title. Initially Team Brown was told the bout with Marciales would be an 8 round non-title bout but the fight was later sanctioned for ten rounds with the belt on the line. However, Marciales who arrived in Trinidad on Friday after the official weigh in tipped the scales at 132 lbs while Brown was comfortably at 121.2 lbs.  In the end, Brown proved to be too much for Marciales who struggled with Lisa’s power. Marciales took a standing eight count in the first round, and hit the canvas in the third before the official called the fight in the fourth round.

Lisa Brown was thrilled with the opportunity to return to Trinidad for the first of three fights. In the week leading up to the fight, she visited schools in the Morvant/Laventille area where she grew up. She also had the opportunity to meet with T&T President George Maxwell Richards. Tansley Thompson promoter and manager of Surefire Promotions described Brown as, “undoubtedly one of the most celebrated boxers out of the Caribbean.” Bad News Brown now has her sights set on a rematch with Chanttall Martinez of Panama for the WBA Super Bantamweight title in February 2012 at the Queen’s Park Oval. Martinez won a controversial decision over Brown in Panama in her last fight after Brown floored Martinez in the eight round of that WBA world title fight.
